Happy Holidays!

Sorry for my lack of blogging! I had ben studying for Finals and got off just last Friday. Then I was just busy with the Holidays and getting everything ready!

As far as the bunnies go, all is well! Apple Cinnamon, Blue Ice, and Dusty have all built nice nests and I am just awaiting for the babies to come :-) Day 28 is tomorrow (12/26). I hope they have them during the day, it's been so cold lately! Charlie, Emma, Nick, and Sundance are all in excellent condition for the show next month! Sundance is a little chunky, so I'll give him some excercise until the show. I'm also on the lookout for a show quality solid AFL or Fuzzy Holland doe, preferably black. If you know anyone that might have one available, drop me an email ;)

I had a great Christmas this year! I got about $120, a few CD's and DVD's, a new Camera (yay!), some clothes, and some misc stuff :-) Thanks everyone! I really loved all your gifts!

Merry Christmas from Silent Springs!!!

Does Producing

I know many, many people have problems with does catching during the winter. It's mainly due to the lack of sunlight your bunnies are being exposed to, since the sun has been setting earlier and earlier. To try and 'trick' their does into thinking it's summer, they will put lights in their rabbitry and turn them on as soon as it gets dark. That will trick the does so that they think the days are longer and they become more willing to breed. I am currently using this method.

Some does are still unwilling to catch, even if you're using lights and maybe it's not even Winter anymore! Those are the real stubborn does. I've found that giving them some ACV in their water for a few days. It doesn't work for anyone, so if you're one of the people that it doesn't work for, go to the next step. For me, if the ACV doesn't work, I'll take them to a show I'm going to (even if I don't plan on showing her) and then by the time I'm back home she's suddenly much more willing. It normally has to do with the car ride getting to the show, but the show itself is also a factor.

Other does, while always willing to breed, may never catch! You must be confused as to why that's up! First, ask yourself if your buck is proven? If no, then let him mount the doe, and check him out. Normally when the buck is 'fully extended' it is easiest to check for a Split P. buck. Most SP bucks aren't able to 'get' a doe. If it's a yes, then remember what month you are in. Some bucks may go sterile in the summer and remain sterile for several months after. I've never had a sterile buck, so I don't know. Another thing is if you are breeding a doe and her vulva is not red & swollen, chances are she's not going to be as willing, as well as less likely to take!

Lastly, how are you breeding your bunnies? Colony breeding/cage breeding/table breeding? I personally don't like Colony Breeding and Cage breeding, for the safety of my bunnies. It is MUCH harder to break up a fight with either of those, and you risk getting injured. With table breeding, you can immediately and safely break up any fights that may occur.

With my next blog I think I might post it on palpating techniques ;)

As to how my breedings are? I'm hopeful :-)

12/28/07
Velotta's Nick (R) X Milkhouse's Dusyt (R, 1 Leg) - Palpates Positive
SSR's Sundance Kid (RGC, 5 Legs) X SSR's Apple Cinnamon (RGC, 4 Legs) - Palpates Positive
SSR's Sundance Kid (RGC, 5 Legs) X SSR's Blue Ice - ???

May your does be willing and your nestboxes full this Holiday Season!

Rebreedings

Blue Ice Missed, so we rebred her and Apple Cinnamon a few days ago. We also bred Dusty! With the winter tho, are girl's are having a hard time catching. We'll palpate in a few days and if they aren't pregnant they'll be bred again :) JIC they aren't pregnant I've got them on some ACV, so if I have to rebreed them they will be more willing. I would put some lights out in the rabbitry, but that really isn't an option with my setup :(

Wish us luck for some New Year's babies! :-)

Sprucing up the Rabbitry

Over the past week I had set my mind to accomplish some 'sprucing' of the rabbitry. First, I started with my grooming table. It was made for me earlier this year by my dad (thanks Dad!). It has since taking a liking to fade out and it started looking not-so-nice lol. So I bought some stain and went to town! It took my about 2 days to finish, since I was at school and as soon as I came home I only had about an hour or two of light at best lol. It is now a Dark Oak, and very appealing I might add :-)
I also scrubbed my trays. I empty my trays 2 times a week, but I only scrub them about once every 2 months. I was anticipating it to take a long time, so I decided to do it on Wednesday. It probably took me about 2 hours for that.
Then I set to work on brushing any molting bunnies. Thankfully now that it's winter I only have one or two that are molting :-) Then I let a few bunnies run around while I finished brushing & cleaning.
Finally, since Blue Ice is due on the 26th (yay! hoping for babies!!!) I decided to get her nestbox ready. As most of you, clean nestboxes are VERY important. If they are not cleaned before each use, than you risk disease and other health problems not only to the babies but also the doe! After I cleaned it I set it out to dry for a few days. I just put it in this morning :-). She went straight in and started digging around. She hasn't soiled in it, so I'm taking that as a good sign lol.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I know I did :-)

Fresno, CA Show 11/10/07

Fresno was an extremely fun show! We arrived there around 8:15, after getting lost lol. Last time I went to Fresno I got lost too! Something must be up with Mapquest.

Anyway, once I got there I checked in and got settled. Almost immediately they called Open and Youth Mini Lops. My Youth friends told me they needed another exhibitor so I switched all my entries to Youth. In the first show I won the SJD class, but there weren't enough for a leg. Also got a few seconds in the senior doe classes. I believe Caitlyn V. was BOB & BOSB. In the middle of this choas Susie C. and Katie R. managed to find me and we talked for a few until I had to get back to the Youth Mini Lops.
Once Youth Mini's were done I met up with Susie and Katie again. I hung out with them for most of the day, they were really fun :-). I got to oogle at all their pretty Fuzzies and Woolies! I especially loved Allison and Hamlet! They also got too look at my lone Fuzzy, which they loved!
After about an hour or so, Open Fuzzies started! Since Charlie was showing, I decided to clerk for Ray. He raved over Charlie & placed him BOSV, but because of his immature wool he lost the BOB. Katie's gorgeous Broken Doe, Allison, ended up getting BOV & BOSB :-) Congrats Katie! BOB went to Mary Henderson.
For Show B Mini Lops, we had Linda Bell :-) She's a GREAT Mini Lop judge, especially since her daughter is currently raising the breed herself. She named Sudance Kid 1st SSB & then BOV! This was his granding leg! I was estatic!!! He also named Hannah BOSV, for her first leg! She also really liked Cinnamon, but had to DQ her. She said if she wasn't overweight she would have taken BOB easily!!!
Overall it was a great day!

New Breedings

Due of circumstances beyond my control, both of my does lost this litters, and Merlot ended up being put to sleep :-(

So, I have decided to just breed one doe for now, with more next month, hopefully.

Current Breedings -

Sire: SSR's Sundance Kid, R, 3 Legs
Dam: SSR's Blue Ice
Bred: 10/26
Due: 11/26
Notes: Linebreeding to Velotta's Francie & Velotta's Hunter, both BIS winning bunnies. Blue Ice is out of Raymond breeding back to his daughter, Grape Fizz, and Sundance is out of Raymond & and outcross doe. Should hopefully throw some nice babies. She has the width of head and pronounciation of crown along with her strong shoulders. He's got the shortness of body and awesome topline. Should hopefully be a powerful cross

Planned Breedings -

Sire: SSR's Sundance Kid, R, 3 Legs
Dam: SSR's Apple Cinnamon, R, 3 Legs
Bred: 11/20
Due: 12/21
Notes: I will keep on showing AC until the end of November. If she doesn't grand by then I'll have to breed her. Full sibling breeding. Both compliment each other very nicely. Hoping to decrease size & increase type.

Co-op Breedings -

Sire: SSR's Sundance Kid, R, 3 Legs
Dam: Hoppin's Grape Fizz, 1 Leg
Notes: Half Sibling Breeding. Bred them this June, but Grape Fizz lost her litter during the Fourth of July fireworks, according to her new owner.

Showing & Me

are going to through some rough times. I think we're going to need need a little bit of space, ROFL.

I really think I've been putting too much of my emphasis on showing. Taking to what the judges say to heart, which I really shouldn't. I should only be taking what I think into consideration when selling and breeding, and using judge's and other breeder's opinion's less seriously. To top it off, I haven't won a leg since the end of March! My goal for the rest of the year is to get ONE leg. That's all I'm asking here folks, just one.

To be honest, I am tired of outcrossing with some of my breedings. I am going to close my herd, as soon as I get Sidney. I will then go from square one, outscrossing with whatever I have, and then linebreeding those babies. I am hoping to both decrease size and stabilize my type in a shorter amount of time. I will be concentrating on only a few lines, in order to create my 'own' true line. It will mainly consist of Velotta & Kitsemble lines, hopefully. I might possibly bring in another Velotta or Kitsemble bunny sometime next year :)

Wish me luck! I am truely hoping I can stick with my plan.

Results!

Just some of the better placements, lol.

Show A -

Sparkling Silver - 2/11!

Show B -
Sparkling Silver - 2/11!
Hannah - 2/8!
Emma - 3/8!

Specialty -

Sparkling Silver - 3/6!
Hannah - 2/5!

I also registered Sparkling Silver, Chocolate Perfection, and Nick =)

I had tons of fun. . . . . mostly due to Shianne & Heidi! Thanks for keeping me entertained, even if you just had to take the solid junior doe class Shianne! :P Just teasing you!

Next show is probably going to be Fresno, to go pick up Kitsemble's Sidney! Did I ever mention how she did?!?! She was 32/102 Broken Junior Does in OPEN! I am very excited to show & breed this girl. I am hoping she meshes well with my current stock. I am sure she will, since Nicole did the same thing and she got some LOVELY kids out of her Kitsemble stock! :D

KCRBA Entries

For the double show, I decided to only show a few. I am showing ZB2, Grace (just renamed Sparkling Silver lol), Emma, and Hannah. They are all looks really nice, the worst is Grace, who is molting on her head a little.

For the GSYMLC specialty, I decided to enter Apple Cinnamon, Nick, Grace, ZB2, Hannah, and Sundance Kid. Hoping to do well :D Wish us luck!!!

Also bringing Blueberry Smoothie to sell. I have someone that is already interested that coming to take a look at her, she possibly wants her bred! =)

I'll be sure to post any major wins on Sunday or Monday!

Convention

Convention Judging has just been finished up yesterday. Today I believe they are presenting new breeds/varieties to be accepted to the ARBA.

I will try to get a list together in one LARGE blog sometime next week =) I've already got a pretty big list, but I'm missing a few breeds & I'd hate to post it uncompleted lol.

I hope that everyone that is at Convention is having a blast!!!!

10/27 KCRBA

This is my next show =) It's a Double Youth only hosted by the KCRBA. The sec'y is Bonnie Cabrera, if you'd like the catalog drop me an email & I'd be more than happy to give you her email addy! Some GREAT judges will be there, including Dick Swanson, Joe Lugo, Scott Williamson, & Keeylyn Hanlon (I'm pretty sure she's one of the youngest judges in the nation!)I'm really excited for it, especially since my club, the GSYMLC, is hosting a Youth Mini Lop Specialty with it! I have no idea who to enter. . . probably not tons since there will be another show 2 weeks after that so I still want to have some money =) lol. I'm thinking I'll definitely showing 2 SSD's, 2 SJD's, 1 BSD, & maybe 1 SSB or BSB.

On another note, I palpated both does & I am relatively sure that they both palpate positive =) With Merlot though, you can never be sure since she is so tense whenever you try to palpate her! I'm still hopeful though, since I've been trying to breed her for 2 months now.

Quarenta's Charlie

Him being a good boy giving me a pose =)
Face shot =P

Showing off his massive head!

I mentioned a little slice of info on my site that I had obtained a new rabbit, so I thought I would indulge you guys on the particulars of this cutie =)

While I was at the Santa Maria Show last weekend, waiting for the Mini Lop's to be judges, I decided to stroll around & look at all the Fuzzies for sale. I've never raised Fuzzies, nor do I plan to, but I've had an obsession with them since the beginnging of this year, thanks to a few select breeders awesome looking Fuzzies =P.

I was actually looking at a Dianne's Hollands when I noticed she actually had a fuzzy available! I was excited, since I know Dianne doesn't breed Fuzzies, so this one is more or less an occasional occurence for her herd. This *adorable* Fuzzy Holland was unlike any other Fuzzy I had ever seen. Normally as juniors they look kind of scraggly, sometimes with matts. I noticed that this guy looked just like a miniature senior! And he had NO matts (Dianne was obviously taking awesome care of this little boy =)) I automatically asked Dianne how much he was. She said $35. I told her I'd think about it & went on my way, pondering over what to do lol. When I noticed another family looking at him, I asked her if I could have him. She said sure & there I went, with my own Fuzzy. After only begging my mom for 4 months. . . lol. Needless to say, I felt like I accomplished something =)

Charlie will be our little Mascot here at the rabbitry. I will be showing him often & will stud him out to any of my friends bucks =)

I've decided to add some pics of him in this post!

When & How To Choose Your Keepers

This blog will be devoted to how I 'cull' from my litters. I use the term cull loosely. Some people refer to cull as kill, while I simply mean selling that animal ;)

I normally start looking at babies once they hit around 3 weeks. With just about ANY 3 week-old baby, it's going to look perfect, lol. So don't judge there. I just start trying to get them to pose willingly, without me having to fight with them.

I normally go through litters at 5-6 weeks, giving myself mental notes on the animal. I'm looking for nice, short little ears, with a huge, broad head. Body is to be as deep as it is wide, with it being as short as possible. I also want to see a FULL hindquarter. I also cull any that have too much length in their shoulder or midsection, as well as low shoulders or a flat body. I should really start taking pictures of my keepers at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 14 weeks, 20 weeks, 25 weeks, & 30 weeks. I will try to do that with my next litter ;)

Say I have 3 babies out of a litter of 8 that I just adore. I have a limited number of holes, so I can only keep two from this litter. Then I go to what I'm looking for in my herd. Say my herd lacks shoulder width, I'd want to keep the two babies with the widest shoulders. Say they ALL have wide shoulders. Then I say, what do I want, not what do I *absolutely* need. I'm always working with color, so color gets my preference. Say out of the three, one is a blue chinchilla, one a lilac steel, and the other a chocolate chesnut. The chocolate chesnut & lilac steel are more important to me, since they hold more of the 'rare' genes that I want in my herd. That's not to say that I'll pick a 'color' over a steel just for it's color ;)

There's my ramblings. . . . I hope you enjoyed them at least a little bit!

Kitsemble Bunny

I have been fortunate enough to get a bunny from Sara Kitsemble of Kitsemble's Rabbitry at Convention! Sara has been BOSB at Convention for 2 out of the last 4 years, and consistently places nationally. I'm getting a Broken Chesnut Junior Doe out of Kitsemble's Bree & Kitsemble's Josiah! Bree is a RGC & was 10th place at '06 Convention, and Josiah has 1 Leg for being the first place SJB at the '06 Convention =) This girl just looks SO gorgeous from pictures, I can't wait to see how she is in person! Thanks so much Sara! I've attached some pics of the little cutie! Now to think of a name for her :D

Filling you in

on what's been happening ;) Sorry for my 'absence,' so to speak, school has been really busy for the past few weeks. In fact, this is the first day in a LONG time I don't have any homework or tests to study for, lol!

I don't think Merlot took. I palpated her yesterday and didn't feel ANYTHING :( I tried to breed her to Raymond, but he couldn't get the job done. I'll just wait it out until this after her due date and breed her a day or two before Dusty.

I sold Jack to Katie, to a great FFA breeder in KC. I hope he does well for her! Jack's siblings, Emma and Hannah, are developing really nice! The HEADS on these girls are awesome! I'm excited to start showing them in October. Once I get around to updating my site next month, I'll be sure to put them on there :)

I've sent in the Specialty entries already for the Santa Maria show already. I only have a few that have really nice condition, so I'm hoping they do well. I am expecting something from Perfection, he's looking *really* nice right now! He'd be almost a senior for that show.

Raymond, Blue Moon, and Purple Haze will be going to Convention presold in a few weeks. I'm sure they will be spoiled rotten in their new homes! It was especially hard to see Ray go, we've become the best of buds, but it's time for him to help someone else's herd. And, who knows, I might have a Convention rabbit brought back to me :D But I'll tell you guys about that if it happens.

That's all for now folks! I'll keep you informed!

Fall is just around the corner

And I am so excited for it! =D

The summer show lull has been so extremely hard on me! My last show was at the beginning of June and my next one is not until the end up September, which is about a month away, which is the Santa Maria show. It's a double open/double youth, with a few specialties (including Youth & Open Mini Lops!) Here's my show list -

Open Specialty -

SSR's Sundance Kid - SSB - Opal
Milkhouse's Dusty - SSD - Blue
Velotta's Sparkling Silver - SJD - Chinchilla

Youth Specialty -

SSR's Sundance Kid - SSB - Opal
Milkhouse's Dusty - SSD - Blue
Velotta's Sparkling Silver - SJD - Chinchilla
JT's Purple Haze - BSB - Lilac
SSR's Chocolate Perfection - BJB - Chocolate

Double Open -

SSR's Sundance Kid - SSB - Opal
Milkhouse's Dusty - SSD - Blue

Double Youth -
SSR's Jack - SJB - Chinchilla
Milkhouse's ZB2 - SSD - Blue Steel
Velotta's Sparkling Silver - SJD - Chinchilla
SSR's Chocolate Perfection - BJB - Chocolate
Velotta's Nick - BJB - Opal

I'm keeping my showing list to a minimum, since I only want to show the ones I think will have a really good chance at winning. As you notice, I'm not showing any babies from my February litters. That's because they aren't mature enough yet to compete with all the senior animals. Hopefully by the October 27th Shafter Show they will be ready =)

I'll also be breeding Milkhouse's Dusty, my registered blue doe with one leg, to MGM's Wyatt Earp, a Registered Grand Champion REW buck with around 30 Legs! He is the #1 Youth Top Lop for the '06-'07 year =) I'll be expecting blues, smoke pearls, blue steels, and smoke pearl steels.

Junior Buck For Sale!

Here's some information on a junior buck I have for sale right now! He'll be available at the Santa Maria Show in September, where he will be shown! Sorry, this picture isn't the best! He was sliding around due to the slippery surface ;)

SSR's Jack

Black Chinchilla Junior Buck
A-Bbc(chd)-DdE-
Sire - SSR's Sundance Kid, Reg., 3 Legs
Dam - SSR's Morning Mist

Jack is a super promising boy! I'm loving how his head & crown are currently developing! He's also got a super little body right now! He's got some HQ's, as well as nice depth and width! The only reason I decided to let him go is because I'm keeping two of his sisters and I'm not sure if he's nicer than his dad (I think they will be the same but I like dad's color better)If he shows well expect him to stay here =D. Snatch him up before I change my mind! Email me at ssrrabbits@sbcglobal.net for price & more info!

AW's Merlot

Yesterday I went to Bakersfield to exchange bunnies =) Qadoshyah sent down AW's Merlot, a RGC steel doe with 4 Legs, and I am sending back a cute 'lil chesnut doe for her (SSR's Amber). I was really happy with that trade! Merlot is a gorgeous doe, with excellent body type! She's a really thick, massive girl! I love her shoulders & HQ's. The only thing I'd like to see more of is depth, so I bred her to my Broken Opal buck, Velotta's Raymond, today. Since Merlot carries dilute I am expecting some blue & black varieties in broken and solid. I'll try to get some pictures of her for my site soon!

I also updated my website some today. I currently have a *Nice* chinchilla buck for sale! I would hold onto him if I wasn't so pressed for cage space right now! I can bring him to the Santa Maria show next month =)

Upcoming Breedings

Here are some breedings that I'm planning to do soon =)

August 15th -

Velotta's Raymond, RGC, 6 Legs X AW's Merlot, RGC, 4 Legs
I'm expecting some really typey little bunnies in black and blue bases =) Should be gorgeous kids with some awesome heads! This will be Raymond's last litter here before he heads of to TN to live with Nora of Nora's Flop Shop =)

September 22nd -

MGM's Wyatt Earp, RGC, 30 Legs, 4 BIS X Milkhouse's Dusty, R, 1 Leg

There are BIS winners on both of their pedigrees, hopefully this match will give me one of my own =) I'm expecting shaded and blue bases with some pretty awesome type =) Both of these bunnies are very, very nicely typed and I'm just so excited to breed these two! This will be a Coop breeding between me and Shianne of MGM Rabbitry =) Thanks so much Shianne for letting me have this breeding!

I am also contemplating breeding a doe to JT's Purple Haze before he leaves in October. I think i might breed him to Blue Ice, but I'm not sure I want to risk getting tons of charlies. They should mesh well together, they're type is very complementary =)

BTW - I have updated the website, I just haven't updated the front page lol

News n' Such

Sorry for my lack of activity with this blog lately, I've been a bit busy!

Morning Mist's litter is doing great. We are going to sell the little black chin buck, to a new Mini Lop breeder to help her out with her herd =) I'm sure he'll do great things for her! We are still keeping his two sisters, SSR's Emma and SSR's Hannah, since they will be replacements for their mom. I was really excited with just the overall quality of this litter, I'm still happy with my choice of a herdsire for this fall. I have a feeling Sundance will not let me down =)

We will hopefully be getting a new doe here soon, via a trade from Qadoshyah of Hoppin Herd of Hares! Her name is AW's Merlot, a silver tipped black steel doe originally from Amy Wright. She's a lovely RGC doe with 4 legs. I'm excited to get this girl so I can breed her to Raymond! Since Merlot carries dilute, I hope I will get some nice dilute kids from that litter! Thanks so much Qadoshyah for being able to part with this gal!

Our next show will be Santa Maria show on September 22nd. Even though it is far away, we are very excited for it! We plan to enter in both youth shows, the youth specialty (hosted by the GSYMLC!), the open specialty (hosted by the SCMLC I think? lol), and possibly one or two in the double open shows =) Hopefully Apple Cinnamon and Sundance Kid will be done with their molts, I'd love it if they finally granded!

I am also trying to get a youth Mini Lop specialty at the October 27th Double youth show in Shafter, hosted by the KCRBA!

Morning Mist's litter =)

This litter turned out really, really nice! Out of the 6, we are keeping back 3, which is almost unheard of from me, LOL! We are keeping SSR's Emma, the lilac chinchilla doe, SSR's Hannah, the chocolate chinchilla doe, and SSR's ????, the black chinchilla buck! One of the chesnuts will be going to live with Sharen , a local Mini Lop breeder just getting started. The other chesnut to Qadoshyah of Hoppin Herd of Hares on a trade for AW's Merlot, which I will hopefully be getting soon =)! And lastly the blue chinchilla will be going to Sara as a Pet/4H Project! I am happy they are all going to such great homes!

For other news, my Rabbit Tatt came in the mail today! I can't wait to try it out! =D

Membership sent in and Rabbit Tat!

I sent in for my MLRCA membership a few days ago as well as ordering a Rabbitat! I'm excited to start doing my own tatooes, I was not liking having to ask people to keep tatooing my bunnies! Thanks everyone who did, by the way =) Without you guys, many of my bunnies would have been DQ'd, LOL!

Morning Mist's babies are turning out gorgeous, I'm pretty sure they all have new homes lined up already. We will be keeping the lilac chinchilla and the chocolate chinchilla for further evaluation. We're hoping they'll both be keepers =D We are loving their type already! Now just to think of names, heehee

Updates Done!

I've gotten all the updates for the website done! New pictures on the litter's page, juniors page, and I've also made a page for Morning Mist's babies!

Also, I'm currently trying to get a Youth ML Specialty Show organized for the Double Youth Show during October in Bakersfield! I'm still waiting to hear back from the Club's president. I'm hoping that he approves though =)

In this blog I put some pictures of Morning Mist's babies =) Enjoy!

Updating

I'm going to be updating the whole website over the next few days, so please bear with us! I took pictures of all the juniors today, to update their pictures and I also needed to add a few. Some are not so great, they weren't very cooperative, LOL! I'm also making a page for my new litter to be on, so far I've just got the background done. . . but it's getting there =) Don't forget to sign my guestbook!

I recieved deposits for Raymond, Blue Moon, and Purple Haze a few days ago. So, they are as of now on hold =) I hope that their new owners appreciate and are as rewarded with them as I was! I am going to especially miss Raymond, but I know he is going to go to a great new home, and get lots of dates with some eastern does :p

You probably won't see much news other than the occasional website update until September, since during the summer months nothing rabbit related happens really. Showing slows down because of the heat. I can't breed does, since carrying a litter is hard on them during the summer. I probably won't have anything for sale until around August, since I had a large herd reduction this Spring.

**SSR's -----, Black Chinchilla
**SSR's -----, Black Chesnut
**SSR's -----, Black Chesnut

Grand Total - 21 rabbits in 19 holes, with 6 of those being kits

I like to stay around the 15 mark as much as possible, it just makes everything a lot easier on me, as far as upkeep and feed costs concerns. I truly love having such a small rabbitry, since it enables me to be able to give each and every rabbit individual attention and socialization. I pride myself on having any rabbit born in my barn to be able to go to anybody as a sweet, loving pet. Also, I love the challenge a limited number of holes presents you with. You are constantly needing to realize that you need to trim the fat of your herd, in able for it to continue to improve . Of course, there are upsides to a larger rabbitry that I occasionally miss. Most people with larger rabbitry get to grow out a larger number of bunnies and also will always have more to show. I know I could never handle a large rabbitry though, just with all the labor having a larger number of bunnies presents.

They are here!

I got both of my bunnies today from Teri today =) They are doing extremely well so far, and are oh so friendly! They are very promising, I think they will do well at the Fall shows! I *love* the genetic condition on Nicole's bunnies, they are naturally just very smooth and always have a great coat of fur on them! The little boy is gonna be called Nick, on account of me buying the bunnies from Nicole =)

Pictures will be coming soon for both of them on my website. We're going to be having several days of 100+ degree heat and the bunnies are always slouching when it's hot out since they are just trying to cool themselves! Actually, I need to get some pictures of then, Chocolate Perfection, a broken chocolate buck I am holding back from Truffle's litter, and some updated pictures of Apple Cinnamon and Morning Mist's babies.

Morning Mist's babies are all thriving wonderfully! She's doing a great job at feeding her kits. With the extreme heat, and with me having an outdoor rabbitry, I felt it would be best if I refrain from putting them out there except for the night time. I am very excited to see how they are going to turn out type wise, since these are my first kits from one of my herd bucks, Sundance Kid, a registered Opal with 3 junior legs. He will be my main herd buck for this fall, so I'm hoping that he passes on his type and then some! He is pictured in this blog =)

Morning Mist's Babies

Here's a picture of them at 5 days old. They are all very plump and healthy, mommy is doing a great job with her first litter =) I got all the colors figured out, and I am *very* excited with some of these colors! I have two chesnuts, a chinchilla, a chocolate chinchilla, an opal, and a lynx =). So, quite an assortment of colors to choose from. My favorite, color wise, is the chocolate chinchilla. It's color already is so stunning! Most people mistake chocolate chinchillas for sable chinchillas, and it does get rather frustrating when someone tries to sell a sable chin as a chocolate chin.

Just got an email from Teri today. She said she got my bunnies just fine! That is such a relief =). Unfortunately her van broke down so I will have to wait until this weekend or next Tuesday until I get them. I am a little disappointed about it, but I'm glad that they got down here to CA easily and safely.

New Bunnies!

Since Nicole Velotta of Vellota's Rabbitry in WA is leaving for Vet School (Congrats again Nicole!) she is having a big herd reduction. Since I was wanting some more of Nicole's stock I decided to give her an email to see what she had available. After looking at several bunnies, we decided on two that would fit perfectly for the needs of my herd. I will be getting one junior doe and one junior buck, but some more info on them later on in this post ;-P. Teri Reymann will be transporting again for me. Thanks again Teri! This will be her 3rd time for Teri to get some of the great Northwest Mini Lops down here to CA for me =). She is such a professional transporter, it is a pleasure doing business with her. I will be picking them up from Teri on the 27th of this month! That's just next week, I'm sooo excited =D

Anyway, let's talk about the bunnies!

First is Velotta's VERW5, a broken opal junior buck. A name is coming soon for him, I just need to get to know him first ;). He's out of Velotta's Waltor, RGC, 10 Legs, and Velotta's Renee, RGC, 4 Legs. Waltor was the 4th SSB following the '06 ML Nationals and was the 22nd SSB at the '06 ARBA Convention. Renee was the 6th BJD at the '06 ARBA Convention! So, he's got some great animals behind him in additional to his gorgeous body =D

Second is Velotta's Sparkling Silver, a solid chinchilla junior doe. She's out of Velotta's Adson, RGC, 12 Legs, and Velotta's Chloe, R. Adson was the 15th BJB at the '04 ARBA Convention. She is very promising and carries dilute so she should help me quite a bit! I'm excited to show both of these cuties during the fall show season =)
